We were nominated to enter the Tall Poppy business awards again. So I put in an entry, and after the judging process we were told we were finalists! So we went along to the awards ceremony held at The Centre in Kerikeri. Waikokopu and Pure Tastes catered the meals. It was really delicious. The highlight was hearing we had won Silver - I didnt think we would do that well! It was a lovely evening. Dad and Dana came along as our supporters.

after the 2nd extreme weather in northland
It’s been a beautiful day in the Bay of Islands, the weather has cleared and aren’t we all looking forward to getting back to normal as much as possible!
The trainspotting is happening at The Trainspotter Café, Kawakawa – The Vintage Railway trust has had the train running Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10am, 12noon and 2pm. It’s an exciting experience hopping on and taking a seat in the open air carriage or the warm enclosed carriage. It’s a brief journey from the station through the middle of the main street and back – but every $2 boarding fee helps to extend this Northland icon along to Opua! I got quite nostalgic, remembering my last journey with a group of friends visiting from Auckland as we boarded to go to the Opua Regatta for the day (yes – long time ago!). We spent some time at the regatta then walked the nature track from Opua to Paihia to catch up with some other friends, as you do when you’re a teenager! Then of course we headed back on that same walk to board the train and return home to Kawakawa. Fond memories.
Anyway, head into Kawakawa, our power is back on, and the water is on and clean! The coffee is fresh, consistently great tasting and prepared by trained baristas. (When you see Leroy Congratulate him on coming 3rd in the Northland Barista Competition!) Daniel has roasted some lamb and vegetables and made some paninis with apple & tamarillo chutney. These are quickly toasted warm so if you’re hungry, don’t wait - these are a treat. He made some pumpkin soup this morning and his ever popular raspberry and white chocolate muffins – so what are you waiting for! And don’t forget our all day Big Breakfast – with Robyn’s Nest Free Range eggs.
